With the #BOLD collection, BIRKENSTOCK steps wholeheartedly into the heritage menswear market. The collection upscales the look and feel of two best-selling styles—the Arizona and Boston—highlighting their unique heritage, quality and function.

Behind the BIRKENSTOCK designs are Takashi Okabe and James Otter, the influential curator and craftsman at the heart of #BOLD.

Takashi Okabe is Director of London’s Clutch Café, the menswear store through which he curates London’s finest edit of “American Casual” style through a Japanese lens. He also helps to publish definitive Japanese magazines, including CLUTCH, LIGHTNING and 2ND.

James Otter is a Cornwall-based master woodworker. He crafts bespoke, handmade surfboards with timber sourced from England’s West Country. Using techniques from the earliest days of surfboard construction, his creations are infused with a deeply human character.

To celebrate their shared love of craftsmanship, BIRKENSTOCK and Otter have created a one-of-a-kind surfboard—a handmade, wooden “eagle” based on the legendary Californian design that redefined the culture of mass production.
