QUALITIES – ANTI-STATIC

ANTI-STATIC CLOGS ALWAYS WELL GROUNDED

The friction created when different materials come into contact with one another, such as a plastic sole and a synthetic carpet, can create an electrostatic charge in the human body. The strength of this electrostatic charge depends on numerous factors, such as atmospheric humidity and the properties of the material.

When grounded objects or devices are touched, the energy that has built up is unloaded in what is known as an electrostatic discharge. The discharge can be felt when the accumulated energy reaches about 3,500 volts or more, but under the wrong circumstances the discharge can reach well over 20,000 volts. The discharge is usually harmless for people. But this is not the case for highly sensitive measurement and control instruments, such as the ones found in operating rooms or intensive care units. In these places, even the smallest discharge can lead to complications.

For environments where electrostatic discharges need to be avoided, there are BIRKENSTOCK anti-static clogs. These special clogs continuously discharge to the floor, reducing the electrostatic impulses that are released – to protect technical equipment.
