WHAT MATERIALS ARE VEGAN BIRKENSTOCK SANDALS MADE OF?

Our vegan sandals are made from a selection of high-quality synthetic materials, such as Birko-Flor®, vegan microfibre and other textiles. They are robust, gentle on the skin and easy to care for, for the same, uncompromised BIRKENSTOCK experience.

Here’s a closer look at each of these materials:

  • Birko-Flor® – A skin-friendly, tear-resistant and easy-care synthetic material which is used exclusively by BIRKENSTOCK as an alternative to leather.
  • Birko-Flor® Nubuck – For the closest thing to vegan leather sandals, this material almost perfectly replicates the look and feel of authentic nubuck leather.
  • Birko-Flor® Patent – This moisture-repellent material in a patent finish is brilliant and bold and comes in a broad spectrum of colours.
  • Vegan microfibre – A skin-friendly material that is soft, but also resistant to tears. Because it is free of animal products it is also used as the material for the lining of footbeds in vegan sandals.
  • Linen – Linen is one of the most robust textile types and is traditionally used for clothing that is subject to heavy wear – making it perfect for our vegan sandals!
  • Wool felt – This is among the oldest textiles in the world and is often used for the upper of slippers, as well as cosy vegan clogs.

    • All of our vegan sandals are entirely free from animal products, as verified by independent testing laboratories. Our vegan collection is easily identified by the green logo and vegan stamp, which is used exclusively on our vegan products.
