The BIRKENSTOCK Rio: The classic sandal for big and small feet
With its timeless design and maximum comfort, Rio is always a great choice for both kids and adults. The secure yet light one-strap sandal with a backstrap can be individually adjusted to the feet thanks to the two buckles. Anyone who is on their feet all day profits from the pleasant support and excellent shock-absorbing properties of the robust Rio.
Which versions of the Rio are available?
The model comes as an understated black version and a simple white design and is available in the sizes 35-43. Kids can choose from a purist model or colourful versions with patterns. The model is available from size 24. Star pattern or Disney print? Kids will probably want all of them! Or at least one model for everyday wear and the Rio beach sandal for swimming.
What materials is the Rio made of?
The model for adults has an upper made of Birko-Flor®, a skin-friendly, hard-wearing and easy-to-clean synthetic material with a soft and breathable fleece lining on the inside. The Rio for kids is made of microfibre, Birko-Flor® and Birko-Flor® patent. The washable Rio beach sandal is made of a single piece of high-quality, skin-friendly EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate). The waterproof beach sandal also has the typical, anatomically shaped BIRKENSTOCK footbed. EVA is characterised by its ultra-lightweight, hard-wearing and highly flexible properties.
Can you wear socks with the Rio?
But of course! Ever since fashion icons started combining socks with open shoes and shorts or short skirts, the look is even considered stylish. Wearing socks in sandals is furthermore very practical: they can warm your feet when it’s still a little chilly on a summer morning or when the sun sets in the evening. And when the little ones are playing in the sandbox, finely woven socks prevent small rocks from hurting kids’ feet. The colourful Rio can be perfectly combined with monochrome socks while the unicoloured Rio can be mixed and matched with colourful socks with patterns.
Which Rio design is the best one for your kid?
If you want to be on the safe side when it comes to matching outfits, the unicoloured model is a good choice. However, this does not apply to every kid. Little princesses love nothing more than glitter and stardust. As the metallic effects of the Rio have the same colour as the surface, the shoe can be combined almost as flexibly as the unicoloured model. However, parents must not be afraid of prints and striking Disney designs: the more colourful, the better is the motto for kids’ sandals. A mix of patterns can be organised when one or two colours are repeated or when monochrome clothes come into play.
