FIND YOUR PERFECT FIT
At BIRKENSTOCK, we know how important the perfect fit is for maintaining a healthy stride. Because bad footwear can cause long-term damage to your feet. Are you uncertain about which size and width you should choose for your next pair of Birkenstocks? Don’t worry, we’ll help you step by step in choosing the optimal fit for your feet – from measuring your feet to breaking your shoes in:

your ideal sandal size and width are:
FIRST STEPS: SIZE & WIDTH
MEASURING YOUR FEET
It’s really simple: Position your foot straight on the ground. First, measure your foot length from the heel to the longest toe. Then place your foot on the tape measure and measure the width of your foot at the widest point from the inner edge to the outer edge.
SELECT YOUR WIDTH
We offer our original footbed in two widths: regular and narrow. The regular width is suitable for normal to more robust feet and is indicated by the outlined foot symbol. The narrow width is suitable for narrow to slender feet and is indicated by the filled-in foot symbol.
THE NEXT STEP: HERE’S HOW YOU PROPERLY ADJUST YOUR BIRKENSTOCKS
FIRST, TAKE THEM OUT OF THE BOX
Your Birkenstocks have finally arrived? Take your new favourite pair out of the blue shoe box and open all the straps.
SLIDE YOUR FEET IN
Next, slide your feet into the footbed with the straps open. You’ll know you have the right fit if there’s a few millimetres of space at either end of your foot. Your feet should also comfortably fit within the shaped footbed and not come over the edges.
FASTEN THE STRAPS
Now you can fasten the straps: the straps should hug your feet without being too tight or leaving pressure marks. Make sure you don’t fasten the ankle strap too tight, otherwise your feet will slide too far forward.
ADJUST THE STRAPS
Test to see if the straps fit properly by walking a few steps. If the straps are too tight or loose, adjust them once more. You’ll know they fit perfectly when you have comfortable freedom of movement and there’s no friction between your feet and the edges of the footbed.
BREAK THEM IN PROPERLY
The last step is very important: new Birkenstocks just love to be broken in! We recommend not wearing the shoes for more than a few hours at first until you get used to the footbed. Then gradually wear them for a bit longer until you’re so comfortable in them you’ll never want to take them off again!
