The BIRKENSTOCK Kay clog boasts two straps, one of which can be fixed firmly to the shaft and adjusted to the shape of the wearer’s feet using a sturdy metal buckle. Thanks to the hidden stud on the side, the second strap can be folded back and, if necessary, can be worn on the shaft or as a heel strap for extra grip. The heel strap can also be individually adjusted using a buckle. The Kay clog is therefore the ideal model for active kids – as there’s little chance of shoes getting lost. Comfort has always been paramount at BIRKENSTOCK, including where kids’ feet areconcerned. This is down to the original BIRKENSTOCK anatomical footbed with a flexible cork-latex core and suede lining that is adapted to the natural form of children’s feet. The shaft is made of Birko-Flor® – a skin-friendly synthetic material that is both dirt-resistant and easy to clean. On the inside, the material is lined with a soft and cozy fleece. A sole that exudes functionality and design: the robust and ultra lightweight EVA sole is flexible, too. The classic BIRKENSTOCK bone profile has been reduced in size, enabling a healthy rolling motion for kids’ feet.

Birko-Flor® is a skin-friendly, tear-resistant and easy-to-care-for synthetic material which is exclusively used by BIRKENSTOCK.
Insole: Natural leather
Natural leather can be recognized by its untreated surface. BIRKENSTOCK purposely does not treat surface grains and other characteristic features. BIRKENSTOCK uses sturdy leather with a thickness of 2.8 to 3.2 millimeters as upper material.
Footbed material: Cork
Cork is a sustainable material extracted from the bark layer of the cork oak. This natural product is insulating and offers very good cushioning.
Outsole: Super-grip
The super-grip sole is comprised of two components: a nonslip, oil- and grease-resistant outsole made of rubber and a shock-absorbing midsole made of light, flexible EVA.

The Original Birkenstock Footbed

A legendary design

The heart of all models is the original BIRKENSTOCK footbed. The construction, which has been thought out to the smallest detail and makes it feel like you're standing in sand, helps your feet feel as comfortable as possible for hours on end. This supports health and promotes wellbeing.

Deep heel cup

The very deep molding in the heel area supports the foot tissue and holds the heel bone firmly in its natural position. This provides the foot with nearly as much support when it is in a sandal as when it is in a closed shoe.

Heel mould

Activates the calf muscles, stabilises the back of the foot and improves gait and coordination.

Interior and exterior longitudinal arch supports

The arch supports that run alongside the sides of the footbed surround the tarsal bones inside and out. This gives the foot the stability it needs when it takes a step.

Transverse arch support

The support that runs through the middle of the footbed stabilizes the metatarsal bone. In this way, the transverse arch support helps ensure that the foot has a naturally straight and solid stance.

Toe grip

There are raised indentations at the front of the footbed near the toes. Thanks to the toe grip the toes remain loose and spread out in their natural position. The indentations also support the natural rolling motion of the toes.

Footbed edge

The footbed is drawn up especially high at the front. As a result, the high footbed edge protects the toes during the rolling motion of the foot.
