ESD-ESD WORK SHOES FOR SENSITIVE ENVIRONMENTS

When the plastic wheels of office chairs roll over carpeting, sleeves glide over desk pads or the soles of shoes move over carpeting, the friction builds up electrical energy. Because of the insulating properties of plastic, this electrical energy, known as static electricity, is not discharged. If a person with an accumulation of static electricity comes into contact with a grounded object or an electrical device, the built-up electricity is discharged suddenly.

This electrostatic discharge (ESD) causes a brief, strong burst of electricity and energy. Under the wrong circumstances, this burst of energy can damage the electrical components in the device. This can occur, in particular, in field effect transistors.

Under normal conditions such electrostatic discharges are merely irritating. But in some situations these electrical surges can also cause significant damage. In particular, work with sensitive high-frequency technology and electrical components requires special protective measures. BIRKENSTOCK ESD shoes can provide very effective protection against dangerous electrical discharges.

SHOES FOR ESD-PROTECTED PRODUCTION AREAS

During the production of electronics, electrostatic discharges or equalizing currents can damage or destroy parts or components undetected. Damage can occur at discharges as low as 100 volts. Because components are so sensitive it is very important during the manufacturing process to avoid materials that pose an electrostatic danger to them.

All ESD products have been tested by TÜV Rheinland to ensure that they meet the standards of EN 61340.
